STUDY IN DENMARK

I've been in Denmark for 3 months right now and I can't believe how fast time's passing by, I'd say it is a good thing but also a scary one. Anyways, I constantly receive questions regarding the process of applying and being accepted by an institute here in Denmark, so here you go. I should start by saying that for europeans it is totally free, there is no tuition to be paid, or taxes.

1. TAKE AN ENGLISH TEST

Before applying, I suggest you to take an english test, usually the most common ones are TOEFL and IELTS. I recommend to take them seriously because they are expensive, and there is not a second chance - unless, of course, you paid once more -. The ones I just mentioned last only 2 years, so you may also check and see if the university you want to apply for accepts other tests, that could last longer.

2. USE OPTAGELSE PORTAL

Regardless which University you choose, you will have to apply through a national portal called Optagelse. Institutes usually need the english test, a motivational letter in which you introduce yourself and explain why you chose them, school reports, references if any and then some unique documents that they provide you.

3. LOOK FOR ACCOMMODATION

It is never too early to look for a place to stay, even if you haven't received a positive answer from your school yet. Chances are that you will be facing a long waiting list, so if you ever change your mind you can just delete your accommodation application without charges. On the other hand if you apply too late you might not find anything or end up sharing apartment or even bedroom with someone else.

4. BROWSE TRAVEL OPTIONS

Denmark is served by few airports, even though usually the cheapest option is Copenhagen when it comes to flying, trains can be quite expensive. I'd suggest to browse every option, I flew from Milan to Billund for 27 euros for instance.

5. HAVE A PLAN B

Of course you need to think positively, but usually plans do not go as expected, so make sure you have a plan b. Apply to multiple universities and put enough effort writing the motivational letter because that's how you convince an institute to choose you instead of someone else. I wish you luck and if you need further help, you can leave a comment below, otherwise StudyinDenmark is a very helpful tool where you can find programmes and courses.

    1. I'm glad you like it, I feel like I would have liked it better if I was also on exchange, but it is what it is. It gave me experiences and a few friends I am grateful for. -Cris
